About Chedutu
Primary
Meeting Chedutu
Chedutu Primary was identified by Cary Gordon Trantham when visiting Zimbabwe in 2019. Having heard about the school from a friend, she decided to pay them a visit.
Inspiration
Touched by the school’s poor conditions, Cary was inspired to do her bit to help. She thought about how best she could assist and provide the children with their basic daily needs.
Ways to help
When Cary went back home, she thought about the drought in Zimbabwe, and the food shortage that it has caused. Every day, the children of Chedutu go to school hungry.
Partners
Cary decided to contact Feed My Starving Children and see if they could help. They put her in touch with Healing Hands International, their partner in providing relief aid in Africa.
Filling bellies
In collaboration with Healing Hands International, Cary arranged a container of rice meals to be sent to Chedutu. This provided students with daily meals for X months.
Collaborating
Thanks to Webster Magigwana, a teacher and coordinator, and John Dube, a representative from HHI, Cary had the help she needed to realise her dream. But that was only the beginning.
Education to help escape poverty
Chedutu Primary School is located 268km south of Mutare, in a remote village in Zimbabwe. Conditions are tough. The school is located in one of the most neglected and underdeveloped regions of the country. Not only is the area characterised by bad roads, and a poor communication network, but it is also very dry. In fact, the school is located in one of the most drought prone areas of the country.
Despite these challenges, the school provides a much-needed education to approximately 700 students, ranging in age from Kindergarten, all the way through to 7th grade.
Chedutu Primary school aims to educate children so that they will be better equipped to escape poverty. Our goal is to support the dedicated teachers of Chedutu by providing children with their daily needs so they can focus on their job - to learn.
